WoooooHooooo….
Back from awesome holiday trip from Andamans. Loved it to the core. An amazing place, a total beauty, a paradise it is.
Once known famously for Kaala Paani (Black Water – Cellular Jail), Andaman now truly boasts of being one of the best, very beautiful tourist place with one of the best beaches in Asia called Radhanagar beach. You go there and you would never want to come back. A totally serene , calm, amazing place it is.
My trip started from Delhi and after a six hour journey, we landed in Port Blair. Since, it was a package tour, a nice car was there to pick us up and took us to our hotel. After checking in, we rested for a while, we went for lunch at Annapurna, the only vegetarian restaurant there and from there, went to Corbyn’s Cove beach. It was our first outing at beach in Port Blair and loved that. But this was nothing what we got to see thereafter in Havelock.
At Corbyn’s Cove Beach
Then, we proceeded for Sound and Light Show at Cellular Jail. The Cellular Jail, also known as Kālā Pāani (Black Water), was a colonialprison situated in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. The prison was used by the British especially to exile political prisoners to the remote archipelago. Many notable dissidents such as Batukeshwar Dutt and Veer Savarkar, among others, were imprisoned here during the struggle for India’s independence. Today, the complex serves as a national memorial monument. The name, “cellular jail”, derived from the solitary cells which prevented any prisoner from communicating with any other. Also, the spokes were so designed such that the face of a cell in a spoke saw the back of cells in another spoke. This way, communication between prisoners was impossible. They were all in solitary confinement.

Let it be. It’s all past now. We are free and we are happy and we are working and we are travelling 😉
Next day, we proceeded to Havelock Islands in ship early morning with packed breakfast. It was almost a 2 hour ride and we enjoyed that thoroughly. From the jetty, a cab picked us up and transferred us to our next resort destination, an awesome resort just 5 mins away from Radhanagar beach, claimed to be one of the best beaches in Asia. And best it is. Clean with sparkling turquoise blue water. Famous for its sunset, we enjoyed and bathed there for almost 2 hours. After that, my son started shivering, but persistent that he wanted to bath more and more!! We had to run back to our resort. But fortunately, we managed to enjoy the sunset.

Next day was a leisure day and again, we kept it for Radhanagar beach only.
Next day, it was Kalapather beach ride. Again, a very beautiful one, a heaven for photography. The waters looked so beautiful there, a combination of green, blue and black at some places where there were black rocks beneath. Since, sun was shining hard, we could not manage to stay there for more than ½ hour and went back to jetty to take our ferry to return back to Port Blair.

Back in Port Blair again, in evening, we went for Chidiyatapu, a beautiful beach famous for birds. Again, this beach and place was also very very beautiful, not for bathing but for enjoying the beauty and lush green surrounding. They have created amazing sitting areas all over there. Chidiya (sparrow), I didn’t see any 😉

OMG, our last day there!! Scheduled for visits to all museums and shopping there. A successfull tiring day. It was going and we were feeling sad. We enjoyed shopping from Sagarika a lot. It’s a government run shopping place and the rates are so good and reasonable that you can’t come empty. Lots and lots of pearls, shells, wooden arts etc. You can’t avoid or stop at just one. The bag becomes big and big but doesn’t leave your wallet too light.
My son Atharva with a stature of Jarawa girl – Jarawa is a tribe that lives at some island in Andamans.
Me, my hubby and my son 🙂
So, the day came, when we had to return back!! Couldn’t be avoided. We had a good breakfast and bid our good bye to the amazing place. Hope to go there again!!
That’s all from my recent trip to mesmerizing Andamans. Hope you enjoyed the post and the piccys.
Love you all,
Charu J

Wow, seriously so jealous of your travels! The prison sounds so interesting. I love historic sites that create an emotion is concrete proof that many have sacrificed for the freedom of others.
