Almost everyone who is reading this post, is suffering from hair problems, be it hairfall or dandruff or thin hair or damaged hair. All this pollution and stress has made our hair dull and lifeless with so many concerns. And hence, the new products in market for those target problems!! Obviously, the products get hit with customers and with right marketing be it on media or salons, we become ready to give it a try.
This time, it is Olaplex for me!!
What is Olaplex –
Olaplex is claimed to use a patented active ingredient that works on a molecular level to seek out broken bonds in the hair that are caused by chemical, thermal, and mechanical damage. You can use Olaplex to restore compromised hair, or add it to another service to provide the ultimate breakage insurance.
The active ingredient is a chemical called “bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate”, the use of which Olaplex obtained patents for.
Bis–aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate is a hair product ingredient known as bond builders which help to protect hair while that hair is being treated with bleach. Bis–aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate help to restore damaged hair by repairing disulfide bonds broken during the bleaching process.
Then read on to know how it actually fares.
Olaplex is a 3 step process –
- Bond Multiplier No.1
- Bond Perfector No.2
- Hair Perfector No.3
Now they have added to their range –
- Bond Maintenance Shampoo No.4
- Bond Maintenance Conditioner No.5
So, basically, No.1 and No.2 are meant to be done professionally by experts at salon. And No. 3 is a product that can be used at home, following the instructions mentioned on packaging.
But, in no way, they are meant to be used all together. You can use No. 3 even if you don’t have ever used No. 1 and No. 2. Also, Olaplex No. 3 works on all type of hair. Please remember that it is not for setting or shaping or straightening of hair. It is meant for repairing hair only. So, you can definitely use Olaplex No. 3 on chemically treated , colored, damaged hair as well as virgin hair. It will be good for all!!
Olaplex is basically a hair rebonding treatment to reduce breakage and rebuilding hair bonds that are meant to give hair strength, shape and elasticity.
- Repairs Damage at home on every hair type
- Strengthens, supports and repairs all types of hair
- Free from silicone, sulfates, phthalates, DEA, aldehydes and gluten
- Not tested on animals
How to use Olaplex No. 3 at home –
- There is no need of shampooing before using Olaplex No. 3. But if your hair is dirty, having build-ups etc, then give a light shampoo.
- You can start with dry hair too but better to use on damp, towel dried hair.
- Apply a generous amount from the scalp to the ends of the hair until the hair is thoroughly saturated. You can comb through, to spread the product evenly.
- Keep it in hair for at least 15-20 mins but surely can keep for longer, depending upon your time and patience. I try to leave it for 1-2 hrs in my hair. You can leave it overnight too. Wash all off in morning.
- Rinse, shampoo and then condition hair as usual and done!!
- Since it not a conditioner or mask for hair, rinse, shampoo and condition properly.
You can use Olaplex on weekly basis for good results. More than that as well as less than that can be done, depending upon your time and liking.
The product comes in a small white plastic bottle with a screw open cap that also has a flip open cap on top. The product is not that liquid and hence can be used bothways. The bottle is quite sturdy and spill proof and travel friendly.
Rs. 2549/- for 100ml.
Yes, it pretty expensive and never on discounts!!
My Experience with Olaplex No. 3 –
I got it 2 months back as I wanted to improve my hair condition and texture. I have used it 5-6 times since then, which is less than how much should have been used, which is once a week. But even then, I can say that it has improved the texture of my hair. The hair feels better in quality after 1-2 uses. And it is costly, so I can’t bring my heart to using it every week :P.
After washing and drying, my hair is better, shiny, less frizzy and more manageable and the effect lasts for almost upto a week. So, you can always use Olaplex No. 3 for special occasions. I wish to use this bottle for at least a year :P. I personally feel that initially you can use Olaples No. 3 once a week but after 3-4 uses, you should reduce it to twice a month frequency.
All in all, no doubt it works and brings some life into lifeless tresses, reduces frizz, creates a moisture barrier, all for good. My hair feel better. I wish to have Olaplex No.1 and No.2 done some day :).
It is readily available on Nykaa. I don’t believe the genuineness anywhere else in India except authorized walk-in salons of course.
MGA Rating –
I recommend it to all my friends who can afford this :). It is expensive and the bottle lasts for almost 5-6 uses. Not a permanent hair transformer, it wear off with time. But definitely, brings great changes in hair texture and quality and makes you feel good about your hair. Those, who regularly go for hair coloring or other chemical treatments should go for Olaplex as well, to reduce the damage. It works!!
